Diversity in TV is winning!

This week I chose to talk about how diversity in TV is becoming much more widely expressed, talked about, and acted on. Stars from the show Orange is the New Black went to a panel about diversity and talked about the recent popularity of it in television, especially with Netflix shows. They stated the reason it is so popular with Netflix shows is because they don't have to worry about advertising so they can "do whatever they want."

How do you feel about this change? Do watch any of these Netflix shows where diversity is celebrated?

:/

We had to make a blog post about current news for my JRN 105 class. When I woke up this morning I knew there was only one thing I could write about, and thats the shooting in Oregon. I will not mention the shooters name, however, because I think the media talks about (and even sometimes glorifies) the killer far too much.
Ten people were brutally murdered for absolutely nothing, and nothing is being done about this issue. We live in a country where shootings like this, innocent people having their lives stolen from them by someone mentally unfit to own any kind of a weapon, happen EVERY MONTH. Not every year, not every decade, but every month. This is absolutely ridiculous, but I don't see it changing any time soon. It's sad I am able to say that and be fairly certain. This whole thing is just sad.
